Ms Marie Buffington

Marion Marie McHugh Buffington was born August 8, 1922, to Reverend Jesse L. McHugh and Rosa Cothran McHugh in Crumley's Chapel, Alabama. Her dad was the Methodist minister there at the time of her birth. Ms. Buffington of Guntersville, formerly of Center Point and Springville, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents and 9 brothers and sisters. Survivors are husband of 65 years, Ormond Hugh Buffington; daughters: Eunice Smoot (John) of Mocksville, N.C. and Laura Flanagan (Mike) of Guntersville, Alabama; Grandchildren: Pamela White (John) of New Braunfels, Tx, Hugh Flanagan (Jessica), Guntersville, Al, Emily Flanagan Love, Birmingham, Al, Meredith Sherrill (Jacob) , New Orleans, La and J. Kirk Flanagan (Johnna) of Franklin, Tn; Great-grandchildren: Connor Flanagan, Stellan White, Caryle Grace Flanagan, Jacob and Maggie Flanagan and Jon Kirk Flanagan: her best friend, Gayle Mims; Special caregiver, Sue Coots and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Guntersville and the Scruggs Sunday School Class. She graduated from Cherokee County High School and attended Snead State Community College where she was a member of the Tennis team. She taught school at Springville High School and worked for the Alabama Power Company in Attalla. She was active in school and Church activities her entire life and served as President of the Center Point Elementary PTA and president of the Center Point United Methodist Women. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and cooking delicious meals for her family, friends and neighbors. Pallbearers are nephews, Wesley McHugh, Robert McHugh, Jesse McHugh; great nephews, James Coker, John Coker, Luke McHugh and family friends, Bob Kabase and Wes Long. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 1, at 11:00 A.M. at First United Methodist Church, Guntersville, with visitation at 10 A.M. preceding the service. Burial is at 1:30 p.m. at Steele Cemetery, Steele, Alabama.
