Jerry R Oberg

Jerry R. Oberg, 82, of Guntersville Alabama, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at his home. Jerry was born in Jefferson City Missouri on April 3, 1937, a son of the late Oliver A. & Dorcas (Covey) Oberg. He was the husband of Sharon L. (Gray) Oberg. They were united in marriage on February 14, 1983, in New Bern, North Carolina. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 25 years. During the Vietnam War. He was a member of Creek Path Baptist Church, Guntersville, Alabama, was Director of Fishers of Men, Guntersville, Alabama, and a member of Hermann Lodge #123 A.F.& A.M., Hermann Missouri. After retiring from the Marines, Jerry further served his country working at McDonnel Douglas in St. Louis Missouri, developing capabilities for our Armed Forces, and implementing overseas capabilities, aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. He retired from McDonnell Douglas to Hermann, Missouri. Jerry worked at Handi-Pac, inc. and was a devout member of First Baptist Church, Hermann, Missouri. In 1997, Jerry moved to Guntersville, Alabama and worked at United States Army post, Redstone Arsenal on several projects, including traveling world-wide inspecting and ensuring the safety of aircraft and equipment used by deployed troops. Jerry was a devoted member of Creek Path Baptist Church Guntersville Alabama where he loved teaching the word of God as a Sunday school teacher, and Discipleship Training Teacher. In his free time, Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and loved to read. Jerry is survived by his wife Sharon Oberg, and their four Children: Mark Oberg (Jeanine), of Morrison MO, Jerry Oberg Jr. of St. Charles MO, Susan Burke (Scott) of Laguna Niguel CA, Melissa Pelton (Steven) of Raleigh NC, Brothers: Curtis Oberg ( Shirley) of Ft. Walton Beach FL, Forrest Oberg (Elaine) of Kansas City MO, Dennis Oberg of Antwerp Belgium, and his Grandchildren: Natalie Bish (Brian) of Lake Jackson TX, Nicole Oberg (Joshua) of Ballwin MO, Lauren Marec (Steven) of Mission Viejo CA, Trent Burke of Laguna Niguel CA, Ethan, Samuel "Sami", and Rachel Ann of Raleigh NC, and two Great-Grandchildren, Luther, and James Bish of Lake Jackson TX He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver A. & Dorcas (Covey) Oberg. - A viewing and visitation we be at Carr Funeral Home Guntersville, Guntersville Al, on Monday February 10th from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. -The funeral service will be at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home in Clay WV on Friday February 14th at 2:00pm -Following the service at Wilson-Smith Funeral Home, Jerry will be buried at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Wallback, West Virginia.
